Tell us about the Howl x UO rave
The collaboration between Urban Outfitters and HOWL was a unique event. It was a chance to give back to the community by curating a rave that was free to enter and enjoy. With incredible sets from Denis Muresan, MVCOKO and Allyxpress from the HOWL Collective, it was a very special party!

Not only that, but it was at a new venue called The Cause, or rather, the New Cause after the old building was forced to close in Tottenham following wide gentrification of the area. In times where venue closures are too often familiar, it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate the opening of a new one with this special collaboration.

What is HOWL and how did it come about?
HOWL is a queer rave and CBD sex-positive lifestyle brand. It launched in 2019 with a desire to bring different LGBTQ+ collectives from across the world under one roof for one night, marrying the worlds of techno, house music, afrobeats and performance art. During the pandemic it evolved into a sex lifestyle brand with a range of CBD lube products and educational assets.

How has the HOWL community shaped you?
The HOWL Community is made up of many incredible trailblazers. The pride within which they dress and carry themselves is something that I am endlessly in awe of and I can’t help but think of the generations of queer people who paved the way for their freedom to be their authentic selves.

You can’t be what you can’t see and I wouldn’t be who I am today without this community to show me what a huge variety of self expressions there are. You don’t have to fit into a box or be a particular kind of person; identity is fluid.

What makes HOWL unique?
As a party, HOWL’s unique identity is that it’s a platform to celebrate other collectives by bringing them together. I love the fact that we can curate a space where wildly different worlds collide. Watching vogue dancers mingle with techno ravers and performance artists is a beautiful thing and I don’t know of another event like it.

In terms of the lifestyle brand, to my knowledge we are the only company that has a CBD lube specifically formulated for anl sex. So that makes us the go-to brand for both seasoned pros and curious novices. If 40% of adults in the western world have regular anl sex, then it’s something we don’t talk about enough… it’s time to shatter those tabboos and look towards a brighter sex-positive future!

What will Howl bring to the community in the future?
The plan for the raves is to expand beyond London. We have already started collaborating with collectives outside of the capital like High Hoops in Manchester and Possession in Paris. But I’m really keen to start curating events in other cities, inviting local collectives from the area to come together and unite in diversity. HOWL is a platform for sub-cultural queer communities and it’s high time we went WORLDWIDE!

Describe the community in 3 words
Diverse, proud & fearless.

Tips for throwing the best rave…
Stay organised and listen to your community. Punters give feedback, and a lot of it. It’s worthwhile paying attention and evolving as your event grows. We don’t always get it right as promoters, but it’s how you handle and learn from situations that are out of your control that define you.

Nightlife can be a tricky business and if your intentions are to get rich fast, then this isn’t for you. What drives us at HOWL is giving our community an incredible experience and bringing together the collectives. Make sure your intentions are in the right place before committing for the long haul.
